Nokia has announced that it has ended its Comes With Music/Ovi Music Unlimited music subscription service, with current Comes With Music/Ovi Music Unlimited phones having full subscriptions until the end of their period such as 12-month subscriptions in China and India, while offering six-month subscriptions in Brazil, Turkey and South Africa when purchasing existing compatible handsets.
Comes with Music was intended to be Nokia’s answer to iTunes with a set quantity of track downloads per month, which was unsuccessful in practice due to limited availability, inflated handset prices to offset subscriptions and confusion as Nokia also offers the companion a la carte Ovi Music service, which is unaffected by the ending of Ovi Music Unlimited.
Nokia originally intended for Comes With Music/Ovi Music Unlimited to launch in the US during its initial 2008 launch but frequent delays led to its quiet cancellation, with its last target launch date in 2010 passing without service launch as originally planned.
