M&S and O2 sign location based marketing deal

Retailer signs six month agreement with operator to use location based marketing service to directly target UK audience

Marks and Spencer (M&S) has signed up to O2′s ‘You Are Here’ location- based marketing service for six months for an undisclosed fee.

The service allows O2 customers who have signed up to the ‘O2 More’ programme to receive texts informing them of special offers when they enter an area close to a M&S store.

M&S joins Starbucks and L’Oreal in utilising the service to directly market to its target audience since O2 launched it in October last year.

O2 Media managing director Shaun Gregory said: “We are thrilled to be working with such a progressive and iconic brand and truly believe that our ‘You Are Here’ service will be another catalyst for their new media ambitions.

“Location adds a whole dimension to the mobile marketing opportunity.

“It’s taking the richness of the medium and delivering something unique that customers really want. I think it will be game changing for the future of mobile marketing.”
