O2 appoints former ITV online sales head Gary Cole as its O2 Media commercial director as it targets sales growth through mobile advertising
O2 has appointed Gary Cole as its new O2 Media commercial director to help further drive sales though its mobile advertising services in 2011.
Cole will be responsible for sales for all services under the O2 Media umbrella which includes Top-up Surprises, Priority Ticketing and O2 More, which saw more than a million customers sign up to receive relevant advertising to their device in 2010.
In October O2 Media also launched, what it claims to have been, the worlds first location based marketing tool, which allows brands to target direct promotions at consumers within a specific area.
Cole, who previously held senior roles with ITV,Telegraph Media Group and Incisive Media, will begin his new role January 31 working from the O2 Ganton Street office in London, which opened last year.
Cole said: “There can be no doubt that the mobile device is an increasingly essential part of the consumer’s life and by providing the right advertising solutions, trust and a great quality of service O2 Media can be at the forefront of this exciting sector in the coming years.”
O2 Media managing director Shaun Gregory added: “We have established ourselves in the market and laid down some great foundations for future growth. We have brought all our products and services in house and ultimately created an end to end opportunity for brands and agencies in the UK.
“The challenge now is to scale the business and we need the best people to do that. Our strategy is to build a market leading personalised media business, and this another step on that journey.”
