Mobile industry association begins hunt for new CEO to replace veteran in September
Rob Conway has stood down as CEO of the GSMA after 12 years running the international association of mobile operators.
Conway will relinquish the post on September 1, and the GSMA board said it will now begin looking for a replacement.
His departure was confirmed at the end of the GSMA’s board meeting in Venice by recently appointed chairman Franco Bernab, who is also the executive chairman of Italia Telecom.
Bernabe said in a statement: “Rob has led the GSMA during a period of tremendous growth as we have moved from 500 million mobile connections to nearly 6 billion connections today, and has nurtured the Mobile World Congress into an extraordinary yearly event where the mobile industry convenes to do business.”
Conway said: “After 12 years I feel very good that I am leaving the GSMA in the best possible position to address the challenges and opportunities ahead.”
