PSN Outage Also Cutting Into Used Games Market

We know we’ve mentioned the possibility of people switching over from PSN to Xbox Live a few times before, but who knew we had that kind of reach? Apparently the top 10 online titles for the PS3 have seen a 7.4 percent US price drop while many of the same games saw a bump in Xbox 360 version sales. A tiny 0.7%, but still pretty significant.

And the damage doesn’t seem limited just to games, as one UK retailer mentions a 200% increase in PS3 trade-ins, many of which are switched for Xbox 360?s. We realize online is important, but if it’s THAT important to you, perhaps consider switching to a PC? Think about it, constant updates and zero-day patches, hacks and compatibility issues, every problem PC games used to have that have been mostly fixed in recent years is now afflicting consoles. Then again, you’d have to deal with some pretty weird DRM. Perhaps we spoke in haste.
