Motorola Xoom Tablet for AT&T: FCC Filing

There are rumours filtering out that appear to suggest that after a recent FCC filing, the Android 3.0 Honeycomb Motorola Xoom could be heading for AT&T Wireless.

The Motorola Xoom with its Dual-Core NVIDIA Tegra 2 processor is currently available from Verizon, as reported by us on February 24th, 2011, and has also been seen with the Sprint branding. Now according to an article by Ubergizmo Motorola will be marketing the Xoom with a “scattergun” method, meaning they will be offering it out across different mobile carriers with hopes that there is a Xoom for everybody, regardless economic background or tax bracket.

Further information coming to us by way of Phandroid, claims that a couple of months ago it was mentioned in an interview with David Christopher, AT&T’s Chief Marketing Officer that the carrier was slated to receive their own version of the Motorola Xoom later this year. This latest FCC filing indicates that that the plans could indeed be in motion for the release of the Xoom via AT&T.

However, the documents passed onto the FCC are quite vague for the product, which is listed as the IHDT65ME1 and described as a “wireless tablet. Nevertheless, according to the guys at Inquisitr, the papers describe what appears to be the Xoom with GSM capabilities and support for the WCDMA standard on 850Mhz and 1900Mhz bands (which are the same bands as used by AT&T in North America).

All so of interest, but not good news for those considering the purchase of the Motorola Xoom is our article on the tablets flop on the US market, another possible reason why the device is being offered across different mobile carriers. Why not give us your views on the Motorola Xoom.
